GRE Exam at Home
GRE Test at Home: ETS, the GRE’s administering body, is going to great lengths to make the GRE as accessible as possible to students planning to study abroad.
GRE test centers are operating at reduced capacities or have been temporarily shut down due to the pandemic, COVID-19, and localized lockdowns imposed. As a result, students who want to sit for their GRE exams are finding it difficult to do so. In response to the crisis, ETS has launched the GRE test at Home for students wishing to study abroad in locations where the computer-based format of the GRE Test was previously available. Candidates must, however, ensure that they meet ETS’s system equipment requirements before registering for the GRE test, as well as that they have a test-friendly environment for the duration of the test. On its official website, ETS offers a series of webinars that introduce candidates to this new feature. The GRE at Home test, a home version of the GRE, will be available to students until test centers in various countries return to total capacity or until further notice. Within 10-15 days, the student would receive his or her GRE scores. Candidates should be aware that due pandemic, the student will not be able to obtain a hard copy of the scorecard. ETS has implemented a number of security measures, including artificial intelligence (AI) technology and live proctors, to ensure that the test runs smoothly at home. Accommodation for disabled test takers is also available upon request for students who require it. While taking the GRE test at home, the ETS has made no other significant changes. Candidates should go to the official website to get a better understanding of the process. Due to the current crisis, ETS has also temporarily waived all rescheduling fees for all test takers.
The Advantages and Disadvantages of Taking the GRE at Home vs. in a Test Center
The Advantages and Disadvantages of Taking the GRE at Home vs. in a Test Center
This section will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of taking the GRE at home and how the GRE at home differs from the GRE at a test center.
The Benefits and Drawbacks of Taking the GRE at Home
The benefits of taking the GRE at home far outweigh the disadvantages. Candidates do not have to leave the comfort of their homes to take the GRE, and the exam is scheduled at their convenience, both in terms of time and location. The disadvantages of taking the GRE at home include having to meet the system requirements for the GRE test to run successfully on their system and ensuring that there is no power outage.
What’s the difference between taking the GRE at home and taking it at a test center?
Candidates should know that the GRE online test does not replace the GRE in a testing center. The GRE at Home program was created to make it easier for students to take the GRE from the comfort of their own homes. The GRE fee is the same for both the GRE test at home and the GRE test at the test center. For Indian students interested in taking the GRE, the fee is USD 205. The main difference is that the GRE for the GRE at Home is taken from the comfort of your own home, whereas the GRE for the GRE at the Test Center is taken at the test center.
While the GRE test center will have a set schedule, the GRE at home can be taken whenever the student wishes. Candidates must, however, ensure that they have the necessary system hardware and software to run the GRE test smoothly and that there is no power outage. Students taking the exam at a GRE test center, on the other hand, would not be concerned about this. The GRE at home is similar to th GRE at a testing center in that it can be taken once every 21 days, and up to five times in any 12 months (365 days).

Candidates must keep in mind both the university application deadline and their GRE test preparation strategy. Candidates should only apply for the exam if they are adequately prepared, and they should apply early so that they have sufficient time to complete the application form. The optimal time to apply for the GRE is two months prior to the first application deadline.

Once a candidate has created a profile, they are only required to select a preferred test location and date before completing the registration process. Candidates can also register for the GRE at Home test, which allows them to take the exam from home if they meet the necessary system requirements.
ETS, the organization in charge of administering the GRE exam, has not stipulated any prerequisites for students wishing to take the exam. Students who need GRE scores for university admissions can take the examination.
Even though many universities have canceled the GRE due to the pandemic, we advise our students to check the university’s official website for the most up-to-date information and to plan accordingly. Read: Study in the United States

Those who wish to enroll in graduate school take the GRE, while those who want to enroll in business school take the GMAT. Each examination contains a verbal and a quantitative section. In the verbal section of the GRE, candidates’ vocabulary is evaluated, whereas the GMAT focuses more on grammar. Additionally, the quantitative sections of the GMAT and GRE are comparable.

Before registering for the exam, aspirants are advised to review the requirements of the program/institution in which they wish to enroll.
